In 2010, I started my fashion label KAAM.; A women’s wear brand with a mission to re-invent the dying crafts of Pakistan. KAAM’s design philosophy was to fuse the age-old crafts with the contemporary fashion, for the women of today, while celebrating and staying true to our culture, heritage and history. In 2016, I joined a Karachi based Fashion studio, Nida Azwer Atelier, that resonated the same ideas of design intervention. My ‘Craft Revival’ portfolio includes the crafts of Rilli, Gota, hand embroidery and Mirror work. These crafts are deeply rooted in the artisans of southern parts of Pakistan and some parts of India. Most of these craftspeople are women working from home in the interior part of the province of Sindh, earning a livelihood with expert skills that have passed on to them from generations.
